Horseshoe Casino’s move from river to land has begun as it started construction work at their new site.
After getting clearance from the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) in April, Horseshoe Southern Indiana has broken ground on its US$85 million project in Harrison County.
It will replace the existing riverboat casino, which will remain in operation until construction is complete.
It’s a move that follows the passage of a piece of legislation by the Indiana General Assembly in 2015, which allowed riverboat casinos to be eligible to move onto land.
Senior vice president and general manager of the casino Brad Siegel stated that the new facility will feature new dining, retail and entertainment options. After receiving authorisation from the IGC, he said: “This project further demonstrates our continued enthusiasm for and commitment to the State. We appreciate the Commission’s decision today and look forward to continuing our positive working relationships at the State and local level.”
