On 1 April 2023, the secretariat of the national platform for combating match-fixing from Anti Doping Denmark will be moved to the Danish Gambling Authority.
Among other things the relocation means that the Danish Gambling Authority will become knowledge and information center in the fight against match-fixing, and responsible for StopMatchfixing, where anyone can report suspected match-fixing.
As secretariat for the national platform to combat match-fixing, it is the Danish Gambling Authority’s task to coordinate the various meeting forums under the platform. The Danish Gambling Authority is given responsibility for analysing information about suspicious bets on sports, and passing on information about possible violations to relevant national and international authorities and organisations.
“It’s a very important task and a big responsibility that I’m glad we’ve been given,” says Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Anders Dorph. “Since we will be getting data on betting on events across operators licensed in Denmark, it makes perfect sense that we are also the ones with the coordinating and unifying function.”
Data is an important tool for combating match-fixing, and can be compared to the importance of the so-called “blood passport” for combating doping.
The relocation of the secretariat was decided by a political agreement in February 2022.
In addition to coordinating meetings and investigating specific cases of match-fixing, it will also be the Danish Gambling Authority’s task as secretariat to ensure strong international cooperation. “We will have a major focus on collaborating with national platforms in other countries”, says Anders Dorph. “It will be completely natural for us, as we have close cooperation with gambling authorities all over the world, and international cooperation is something we already value highly.”
The national platform for combating match-fixing currently consists of the following members:
• Anti-Doping Denmark
• The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF)
• Danish Football Association (DBU)
• Danske Licens Spil A/S
• The Ministry of Culture
• Special Crime Unit
• The Attorney General’s Office
• Danish Online Gambling Association (Spillebranchen)
