Licensed operators of the Russian iGaming market showed great interest for sports betting platforms.

As the hosts of these year’s main sport event – the FIFA World Cup – Russia admitted that its licensed bookmakers have seen an increase in sports betting. As the FIFA World Cup gets closer so is the number of sport bettors increasing as reported by licensed bookmakers.

The Parimatch figure was notable given that its traffic in the months from November 2017 to March 2018 averaged between 600,000 to 800,000, making the April figure around 400 per cent higher than normal, based on a statement published by Russian online gambling affiliate Legalbet’s survey.

As the FIFA World Cup gets closer, Russia has set a clampdown on online sports betting platforms to eliminate illegal gaming options from the market. Under the clampdown framework, the Roskomnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications) has blocked over 1,800 gaming sites since winter.
